About Me
A subscriber recently suggested that I write about how to work with social networking to help build a list. His comment happened to job my memory, because I have all ready been writing articles about social networking else where. So we begin a series of short post to about some of the generic features of social networking and how to use them.
The first are is the “About Me” section of most social media.
With social networking all the rage these days it’s important to send a consistent message to the people you want to build a relationship with. Your consistency should run through all the social networks you develop.
When people are looking for others to network with, one of the tools they have here is to go to your profile page and read through it. If yours is blank or carries and ad for a product, (I’ve seen this often) you leave your visitor wondering if you would be someone they should contact. Further research at your profile might reveal more information about you, but why put people to all that trouble? If you really want to connect with people you need to let them know what you are looking for and what your interests are.
Now when someone lands on your profile page they can get a better idea if you are the person they want to develop a relationship with. You never know when you get a friends request if that is the person who can pave your road in gold.
But they won’t find you if you don’t give them some clues in the “About Me” section. Does your bio it help someone to figure out some basic information about who you are and what you are interested in? If not change it. And when things change go back and update your profile. Then through out your social networks maintain the same or very similar information with changes to reflect the type of social media you are using.
If you came to this page on a link, click on the list grow and prosper title and you will see “about” section on this blog. Take a moment to read through mine. To get back to the article click the title page again.
Social Networking is not about how MANY names you have on your list, but about how many of the right people you have on your list.
