A signature file is your sign off salutation. Your signature file is a snapshot advertisement about your opportunity, or a tag line you use as a form of identification. Following your brief “ad”, you enter the URL you are promoting.
When you send out emails, participate in forums, or when you submit articles to article warehouses, you provide a link back to your site. This creates traffic and signups to your site.
You might use several different signature files depending on the number of businesses you promote. However, the purpose of the file is to create recognition, or brand identity.
Diluting your signature file with too many different versions reduces the overall effectiveness of your signature file. Your goal is to leave behind a trail of signature files that your potential contacts will start to recognize over time. After they have seen your signature file in a number of different places, your credibility and trustworthiness increase. Eventual your potential contacts will click on your link. The first time they may only take a quick look around. Two week down the road, they notice your signature again. Now they want to take a closer look at your offer.
Many programs either provide or suggest signature files. These signature files have a proven record of success. Unfortunately, as is the nature of the Internet Business, as affiliates join the program, and everyone starts to use that file, you become just one in a field of many.
Developing your own signature file that relates to both your business and your personality is a better strategy. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the signature.
Try switching the lines around, or altering the placement of the words. Your goal is to create something uniquely yours.
Once you are satisfied with your creation, start to use it in everything you do. This builds
“Brand” recognition. It might not be as catchy as the latest Nike tag line, but then you didn’t have to pay someone millions to come up with a few words to capsulate your image either.
As your business grows, you will want to re-valuate your signature file. Your tag line might need updating to accommodate a slightly difference spin to your business or your personality.
When you do update, try to keep a kernel of your original tag line in your file to give consistency to your message. Evolve rather than rebel.
